First things first… Thank you for visiting my site and many congratulations on your family addition(s).

Ever noticed how weddings and funerals are the very places you meet family and friends you haven’t seen for ages? The same could be said for Naming and Welcoming ceremonies.

A Naming or Welcoming Ceremony enables you to celebrate the unique union between a child or children and family members. There is no surprise that when children are involved the whole world seems a little brighter. Emotions of pure joy, amazement, pride and love are matched by the reactions of smiles, tears and laughter. A Naming or Welcoming Ceremony is a truly wonderful way for a family, whatever shape or size, to announce the arrival of or to introduce a new member to the world. There is nothing better than bringing family and friends together than with a celebration...

Many parent(s) believe the only way to celebrate the arrival of a child is to have a baptism or christening, in a church. Often leaving those parent(s) without a religious belief, wondering how they too can celebrate or mark their joyous occasion… a Naming or Welcoming Ceremony could well be the answer they seek.

A child of any age, whether your own, adopted or a step child or children, can have a Naming or Welcoming ceremony. Unlike a baptism or christening where the focus is on the relationship between the child or children and the church. A Naming or Welcoming ceremony focuses fully on the relationship between the child or children and the parent(s). A Naming or Welcoming ceremony can be held at any venue, on any day and at any time. In general, a Naming or Welcoming ceremony is officiated by a celebrant but you can also use a family member or a friend.

The of advantages of using a celebrant are: -

  • A celebrant is a knowledgeable professional who will help you to create your vision.

  • A celebrant will take time to get to know you, your family and your story.

  • A celebrant offers you choice and flexibility with all aspects of your ceremony.

  • A celebrant will offer guidance and advice but puts you, your wishes and your child or children before everything else.

  • A celebrant will work with you to craft a beautiful, bespoke ceremony that reflects your ideas, values, your personality and that of your child or children.

  • A celebrant takes the stress out of not only helping to create the ceremony but managing and delivering it on the day…so you and your guests can relax and enjoy your ceremony.

A Parent(s) chooses to have a Naming or Welcoming ceremony for many different reasons, depending on the circumstances of their family. They may include: -

  • A public declaration of their everlasting love, commitment and duty of care to their child or children.

  • A public and formal announcement of their child or children’s names.

  • A shared welcoming of their child or children into their family and their community.

  • Appointment of ‘Supporting Adults’ who promise to create a special bond and take an active role in their child’s or children’s life.

  • Offers an opportunity to strengthen relationships between family and friends, providing a platform for everyone to meet in celebration.

  • Gives the opportunity to have other family members and/or friends to take part in the ceremony.

As a mother myself, I know and understand what a special gift a child can be. I would be thrilled and it would be a pleasure to help you create an individually crafted Naming or Welcoming ceremony for your child or children. Your ceremony will be completely personalised to you and your child or children. It will totally reflect your family’s unique story and can include various elements that add additional meaning like: -

  • Significance of the chosen name(s) and why you choose the name(s).

  • Readings

  • Poetry

  • Music which could be recorded or something played live

  • Family customs or rituals

Whatever you choose, it is important to remember that I will be there every step of the way with explanation, advice and all the support you need. Together we will craft your perfect ceremony. The only limitations are those of your own imagination…everything is possible! There are no rights or wrongs…just what is right for you, your family and your child or children.
